Mission of the Department of Computer Engineering

The Department of Computer Engineering provides education and conducts research on the structure and development of computer systems and methods for their effective use. Educating computer engineers equipped with contemporary theoretical and practical knowledge in these fields is of great importance for contributing to and shaping economic development. This responsibility is undertaken by computer engineering departments at universities.

Duration of Education and Courses Offered

The undergraduate program offered by the Department of Computer Engineering is four years, excluding the English preparatory year. During the first two years, the curriculum consists primarily of fundamental engineering and fundamental computer engineering courses. In the following two years, in addition to the compulsory courses required in computer engineering, technical elective courses are offered to enable students to specialize in software, hardware, or various fields of computer engineering. The program also includes non-technical elective courses that may be useful to computer engineers. Considering that graduates work in various fields of computer engineering, the importance of making appropriate choices among the technical elective courses becomes even more apparent. The educational expenses of students in the department mainly consist of costs related to computers, computer components and consumables, books, and stationery.

Career and Employment Opportunities for Graduates

Students who successfully complete the undergraduate program are awarded a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. Graduates of the department may work in a variety of positions, including systems analysts, application programmers, managers in information processing centers, founding and managing engineers, database administrators, and R&D engineers involved in the design and implementation of computer-aided industrial systems. Graduates may also pursue academic careers at universities, contributing to education and training while conducting scientific studies and research.

Fields of Employment, Job Opportunities, and Earning Potential

Graduates of the Department of Computer Engineering have employment opportunities in a wide range of public and private organizations operating in management, education, industry, trade, and service sectors, as well as in banks, universities, and companies that manufacture and market computer hardware. With the knowledge and experience they have acquired, graduates of Ege University Department of Computer Engineering are able to find employment within a short period of time and with competitive salaries in İzmir, various regions of Türkiye (particularly İstanbul), and abroad. In recent years, our graduates have also begun working under various job titles in research institutions and R&D departments of companies in research and application areas of computer engineering, including artificial intelligence, artificial neural networks, computer graphics, image processing, embedded systems programming, mobile game development, and data mining. As information technologies and related technologies continue to evolve, employment opportunities and fields of work are also becoming increasingly diverse.
